Title | | | Lemhi Mountains |
| Big Eight Mile | |
| Go to downtown Leadore, Idaho and make a turn to the south. Follow the road and the signs to Big Eightmile Canyon. Travel south up the canyon and take the first left turn past the Dairy Creek access road. Follow the road to its logical end and you will be at Big 8 Mile campground. A wonderful place to start as you play in the rugged country between the Lemhi Valley and the Pahsimeroi Valley. This is bear country to be prepared. |
| Sacajawea Center | |
| The Sacajawea Center is being built to honor one of the most famous women in American History who was born right here in the Lemhi Valley. Sacajawea was kidnapped from her tribe in the upper Lemhi valley when she was just a girl. As a young woman she accompanied the Lewis and Clark Expedition as a guide and led them back into her homeland. |
| Beaverhead Mountains |
| Railroad Canyon | |
| On a beautiful day in June we drove up over Bannock Pass, out of Leadore, and explored this old railroad bed. This railroad used to carry the precious metals that were mined in Gilmore to the smelters and processing plants in Montana. The railroad bed wound its way up the canyon to a tunnel at the top of the pass. We followed the bed up the east side of the mountains to the mouth of the tunnel, which is now caved in. |
| High Mountain Lake | |
| Hidden in the hills to the east of Big 8 Mile canyon is another road that is now gated off. I wasn't sure where it would end up but the ride was worth it when I got to the top. |
| Lewis and Clark |
| Lewis and Clark Trail | |
| The Lewis and Clark Expedition came into the Lemhi valley over Lemhi Pass. This is a journey by car over following the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Trail which follows the trail rather closely. |

| Salmon Fires |
| Withington Fire 2003 | |
| The Withington Fire is threatening the Sunset Heights subdivision. Here are some photos taken from a vantage point across the valley and at Sunset Heights. The fire was actually started by lightening in the drainage behind these mountains,in the Pahsimeroi Valley. Increased winds have driven the fire over the mountains and down the other side to the grass lands down around the houses. |
| 2001 Fire, From a Helicopter | |
| These are photographs taken by a firefighter from a Forest Service Helicopter. You can image that we all got very tired (and sick of) breathing all this smoke! |
