It is amazing how many miles of tunnels are located in the mountain. Shafts and tunnels go for hundreds of feet horizontally and verically. A small generator supplies the power for a string of lights put in this tunnel. The rails on either side of the walking planks, are what the rock cars used to bring the rock to the ball mill for crushing. This tunnel is maybe 10 feet tall. The flash on my camera does not illuminate the tunnel enough to see the rock car at the back of this tunnel. Miners that were building vertical shafts, would start in a tunnel like these and then drill over their heads to extract the rock. The theory here was that it was easier to let the rock drop down into the cars than to pick the rock out a hole and then into cars. Talk about dangerous.
