About 10 major wildfires are actively burning in central and southern Idaho, covering more than 35,000 acres.  The largest is the Papoose Fire, which is burning more than 8,000 acres west of Salmon, Idaho.  The most recent is the 210 Fire, which broke out near Redfish Lake Lodge on Monday afternoon in the Sawtooth National Forest.

CTAI is the Community Transportation Association of Idaho—a member-driven nonprofit advocating for a safe, convenient, healthy and environmentally-friendly network of multimodal transportation options across Idaho.  District 6 Mobility Manager, Jeff Osgood, will host an open house for the general public as a part of the 2013 LMMN 6A Plan update process.  This meeting will be held on Wednesday July 17th, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the Salmon City Council Chambers.  The purpose of the meeting will be to review the performance of investments in LMMN 6A, give an opportunity for feedback on the existing LMMN 6A Plan strategies, and obtain input for the direction of the 2013 LMMN 6A Plan revision.

State historian Keith Petersen nearly forgot that today is the 123rd anniversary of the day Idaho became a state.  Statehood was a bit of a “non-event” in Idaho, Petersen said, and it arrived “without the drama that came with the creation of Idaho Territory” 27 years earlier, said Petersen.  “Everyone knew that statehood was going to come,” he said. That day in 1890 was the culmination of a long effort by Congress and territorial legislators who spent the previous year “getting their ducks in a row.”

Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), along with Senator Mark Udall (D-Colo.), introduced a bipartisan and deficit-neutral bill this week to help states create and maintain public shooting ranges for hunters and sportsmen to responsibly practice their sport and promote firearm safety. The Target Practice and Marksmanship Training Support Act (S. 1212) would allow states to use the excise taxes already collected on sporting equipment and ammunition to create and maintain public shooting ranges.
